TRAI has warned people about the scams being done in the name of mobile tower installation. Criminals are cheating people in the name of installing new mobile towers of telecom companies Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vi. Many such cases have come to light, wherein criminals have cheated people in the name of installing mobile towers and regular income. The telecom regulator has issued a warning about this and released a video to warn people against it.
Fraud in the name of installing mobile towers
Apart from TRAI, industry bodies DIPA (Digital Infrastructure Private Limited) and COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India) have also warned the public. Criminals are advertising in newspapers or other media in the name of installing mobile towers, claiming to give lakhs of rupees advance, permanent job to one person, etc. to land leasers for mobile towers.
Not only this, criminals also issue fake NOC (No Objection Certificate) in the name of TRAI and DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunication to trick people. Apart from this, people are asked to deposit money in the name of tax, after which it is claimed to start installing mobile towers. Many people fall into this trap and deposit this amount. Besides, they also share their personal documents with criminals.
TRAI has warned
Neither TRAI nor DoT issues any such no-objection certificate, the telecom regulator said in its video post. Also, the Department of Telecommunications or regulators do not directly approach people to install mobile towers. Only Indus Towers, American Tower Corporation, Summit Digital Infrastructure, Ascend Telecom and Tower Vision are authorized for mobile tower installation in India.
Mobile towers are installed to enhance the telecom infrastructure. These mobile towers are installed only by telecom operators or digital infrastructure providers (IP). The details of any mobile tower installing company are kept updated on the website of Department of Telecommunication. If someone is coming to install a mobile tower near you, you can check the company (IP) details by visiting the Department of Telecommunication website (dot.gov.in).
