The 42nd edition of the historic domestic football tournament Santosh Trophy is currently being played, with former champions Kerala managing to make it to the last round. The Kerala team managed to make it to the final round by defeating the Puducherry team 7-0 in their last match in Group-H. Kerala, who have won the Santosh Trophy 7 times so far, had their best performance this time as well, winning all their group matches and securing a total of 9 points to book their place in the final round. For Kerala, in the match against Puducherry, Sajeesh E and Nasib Rahman scored two goals each while Ghani Ahmed Nigam, Christy Davies and Shijin T scored one each.
Meghalaya and Jammu-Kashmir have also reached the final round
Apart from Kerala, Meghalaya and Jammu-Kashmir have also managed to secure their place in the final round of Santosh Trophy 2024. In the Group A match, Jammu and Kashmir qualified for the final round of the Santosh Trophy with a 5-0 win over Ladakh. While in Assam, Meghalaya qualified for the final round after drawing 1â1 with the host state in Group E. In the other match of this group, Arunachal Pradesh recorded their first win by defeating Nagaland 4-3.
Railways finished second in Group-H
While Kerala have secured their place in the final round of Group-H, Railways in the same group beat Lakshadweep 1-0 to finish second in the group. Pawan Vijay scored a goal in the 57th minute of the match for Railways to give his team the win. Punjab thrashed Himachal Pradesh 7â0 with Kamaldeep scoring three goals while Tanveer Singh, Jaginder Singh, Jung Bahadur Singh and Gaurav scored 1 each.
