PM Modi said that today is NCC day. I myself have been an NCC cadet. NCC inculcates discipline, leadership and spirit of service among the youth. Whenever a calamity strikes, NCC cadets are definitely there to help. Today, continuous work is being done to strengthen NCC. Now the number of girl cadets in NCC has increased by 40 percent.
Vivekananda Jayanthi will be celebrated in a special way
This time the 162nd birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda will be celebrated in a special way on 12th January. On this occasion, Mahakumbha of youth is going to be held at Bharat Mandapam on January 11 and 12. Crores of youth will participate in it. You may remember that from the fort of Red Fort I called upon the youth, whose family had no political background, to enter politics. A campaign will be launched to connect one lakh such youth with politics. Experts from India and abroad will come in this. I will also be present as much as possible. A blueprint of how the country can take these ideas forward will be prepared. This is going to be a great opportunity for the future generation of the country.
Youth serve the society selflessly
In Mann Ki Baat we often talk about the youth who are selflessly working for the society. There are many young people who are busy finding solutions to people’s problems. Virendra from Lucknow is making the elders of his area aware about the technology. In many cities, the youth are coming forward to partner the elders in the digital revolution. Mahesh from Bhopal is making many elderly people aware about making payments through mobile. Apart from this, the youth are also being made aware to protect themselves from digital arrest. I discussed it in the last episode. Mostly elderly people are victims of this type of crime. We have to explain to people that there is no such provision as digital arrest. I am happy that young friends are participating in this work and inspiring others too.
Foster friendship with books
Nowadays many experiments are being done regarding the education of children. It is also said that books are man’s best friend. Now what better place to strengthen these friendships than the library. One such library has been set up for children in Chennai, which has now become a hub of creativity. It has more than 3000 books. Apart from this, many types of activities also attract children. There is definitely something for everyone. The experimental library of Gopalganj is being discussed in many cities of Bihar. Along with this, the youth of 12 villages have started getting the facility of reading books. There are some libraries which are useful to students in preparing for competitive exams. You too develop a friendship with books and see how your life changes.
Dozens of countries in the world have people of Indian origin
I returned from Guyana last night. A mini India also resides in Guyana. Brought to Guyana from India for labor about 180 years ago, today people of Indian origin are leading Guyana in every field. The president there is also of Indian origin. While I was in Guyana an idea occurred to me. Like Guyana, there are millions of people of Indian origin living in dozens of countries around the world. Can you find stories of people of Indian origin keeping their heritage alive in other countries? You find these stories and share them with me.
A project is being run to preserve history
You may also find the extraordinary project underway in Oman interesting. Many Indian expatriate families live in Oman. Many of them have Omani citizenship, but Indianness lives in their veins. Documents related to this have been collected. The Oral History Project is also a basis for this. In this senior people have shared their experiences. One such project is also going on in India. Under this, history lovers are collecting experiences of people at the time of partition of the country. Today there are very few people left who saw that period. A country that clings to its history has a good future. Many other similar projects are going on in the country. You can also support this. Our Upanishads have been translated into Slovak for the first time in Slovakia. It is a matter of pride for all of us that there are millions of people across the world who have India in their hearts.
Planted more than 100 crore trees in five months
A few months ago we started a campaign in the name of Mother Tree. The campaign has crossed the milestone of planting 100 crore trees in just five months. You will be proud to know one more thing related to this that this campaign is now spreading to other countries of the world. Even in Guyana, the President of Guyana joined me with his family in the Vriksha Mata campaign. This campaign is being run in different parts of the country. 12 lakh trees were planted in Indore in 24 hours. A unique record was created in Jaisalmer. Here a team of women planted 25 thousand trees in 1 hour. Many social organizations are planting trees under Ek Peed Ma Ke Naam Abhiyan. Their effort is to develop the entire eco system where the trees are planted. Anyone can plant a tree in the name of their mother by joining this campaign. We can never repay our mother’s debt, but we can make her presence alive by planting a tree.
Important contribution of sparrows to biodiversity
All of you must have seen Sparrow in your childhood. Sparrows play an important role in maintaining the biodiversity around us. Sparrows have been driven away from us by increasing urbanization. Children of today’s generation have seen this bird only in pictures. Now many efforts are being made for the return of this bird. Chickles will become a part of our life if you also make efforts around you.
Cooperate in cleanliness campaign
You must have noticed that when you think of a government office, images of piles of files come to your mind. A special cleanliness campaign was launched to remove such decades-old files, the results of which have also come to light. Where there is cleanliness, Goddess Lakshmi resides. Akshara and Prakriti, two daughters from Mumbai, create fashion items from clippings. His team turns clothing waste into fashion products. Talking about cleanliness, some people in Kanpur even go for morning walk every day and collect garbage. At first only a few people were involved, but now it has become a big campaign. Small efforts lead to big success, example of this is Itisha of Assam. He is busy cleaning Shanti Valley in Arunachal. The people of his group create awareness among the tourists who come there. Such efforts boost India’s cleanliness drive.
