PM Narendra Modi arrived in Nigeria on Sunday during his three-nation visit. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the West African nation in 17 years. Invited by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, PM Modi received a warm welcome at the Abuja airport. The visit symbolizes the growing ties between India and Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. PM Modi was received by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his arrival at Abuja airport. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, presented Abuja’s symbolic “Key to the City” to the Indian Prime Minister as a sign of trust and goodwill.

Meanwhile, members of the Indian community in Nigeria also reached the airport to warmly welcome PM Modi. As soon as PM Modi arrived, they waved the Indian flag and cheered. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the significance of the reception, saying it “reflects the trust and respect reposed in the Prime Minister by the people of Nigeria.” Emphasizing the importance of PM Modi’s historic visit to the West African region, the Ministry of External Affairs also shared scenes from the incident.
