Rajat Sharma’s Blog | Kota in Kota: The Hidden Mantra of Victory

In Maharashtra, Narendra Modi explained the meaning of the slogan ‘If we are together, we are safe’. Modi said that Congress is planning to end reservation. Modi said that the first step of this conspiracy is to divide the tribals, dalits and backward classes into castes, then to make the castes fight among themselves, after that when these sections of the society become weaker, then abolish the reservation. At rallies in Maharashtra, Modi said that was why he was warning tribals, Dalits and backward classes, saying repeatedly that ‘if we unite, we will be safe’.

Modi listed the names of castes for the first time in all three rallies in Sambhaji Nagar, Raigad and Mumbai. So far Modi used to say in rallies that Congress is against reservation and wants to abolish reservation, but today for the first time counting the names of castes, Modi said what is the conspiracy of Congress, what Congress wants, Congress to abolish reservation. Are the tricks up?

Reservation is a big issue in Maharashtra elections, it is an emotional issue. People from Maratha and Dhankar community are on the streets and it is election time. Hence both Congress and BJP are trying their best to turn the situation in their favour. But why did Modi list the names of castes today?

Its background needs to be understood. There is a system of reservation in government jobs for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, which is respected and followed by everyone. Some complained that some castes benefited more from reservation and some castes were left behind. The matter came to the Supreme Court a few days ago. After listening to everyone, the Supreme Court arranged the quota. The Supreme Court held that a separate sub-classification can be made in SC-ST reservation. The Supreme Court changed the 20-year-old system. That said, the needy underprivileged should be given reservation within the reservation.

This decision of the Supreme Court has come before the Haryana elections. BJP promised people that it will implement it. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced in the Haryana Assembly that his cabinet has issued a notification to implement the quota system.

Under this, there will be 10 percent quota in government jobs for disadvantaged scheduled castes and 10 percent for other scheduled castes. 15 castes have been included in the category of Other Scheduled Castes and 66 castes in the category of Deprived Scheduled Castes. It will benefit 66 castes included in the Most Deprived Scheduled Caste category. Haryana became the first state to implement reservation system for Dalits as well.

If you listen to Modi in this context, you will understand what he wants to say and what he wants to do. There are some castes in Maharashtra which get less benefit of reservation. A large section of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will benefit if the quota system is implemented in Maharashtra as well. Now there is no need to say who will benefit from this in the elections. (Rajat Sharma)
