Bamako (gardener): Can you ever imagine that the Prime Minister of a country can be sacked for criticizing someone. But this has happened in a West African country where criticizing the prime minister has proved costly. The matter became so serious that the Prime Minister was removed from his post. This true and shocking incident happened in the country of Mali.
It is being said that Mali’s Prime Minister Choguel Maiga was accused of criticizing the country’s military regime. He was fired on Wednesday after this. Mali’s military leader Colonel Assimi Goita issued a presidential order in this regard. The Chief Secretary to the President read out the order on state television channel ‘ORTM’. Mali has been ruled by military leaders since a military junta seized power in 2020 and staged a second coup the following year.
Junta Army Rules
Junta rule prevails in this country. In June 2022, the ‘junta’ promised to restore civilian rule by March 2024, but elections were later postponed. No date has yet been set for the presidential election. Maga was appointed Prime Minister by the army for two years. At a rally of his supporters on Saturday, he accused the ‘junta’ of postponing the elections without informing him. In response to MAGA’s statement, the ‘junta’ organized demonstrations against them. The name of the new Prime Minister has not been announced yet. (AP)
