Ayushman Bharat expands to cover all citizens aged 70+ years.
In a significant step towards increasing access to healthcare, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has recently expanded its reach to include all senior citizens aged 70 and above, irrespective of their income. This landmark initiative aims to provide comprehensive health coverage to about 4.5 crore families, ensuring that about 6 crore senior citizens are covered per family at Rs. 5 lakh health insurance cover, strengthening the government’s commitment to inclusive and affordable healthcare for the weaker sections of society.
Apply Online for 70 Years Old Ayushman Card
Beneficiaries can apply for Ayushman Bharat Senior Citizen Yojana through a dedicated website portal and Ayushman App (available for Android on Google Play Store).

How to apply for Ayushman card for seniors aged 70 and above?
Online Registration:
Senior citizens can apply for Ayushman card online through official National Health Authority (NHA) website or Ayushman app.
Steps to Apply on NHA Portal:
- Access Portal: Visit the NHA Beneficiary Portal.
- Login: Enter your phone number, solve captcha and authenticate via OTP.
- Registration Banner: Click on the banner for Senior Citizens aged 70+.
- Fill Details: Enter your State, District and Aadhaar Number.
- Complete KYC: Use Aadhaar OTP and upload recent photo for KYC verification.
- Download Card: After approval, download Ayushman Vaya Vandana card within 15 minutes.
Mobile Application Process:
- Download Ayushman App: Install the app on your mobile device.
- Login as Beneficiary: Enter captcha and mobile number, then authenticate through OTP.
- Fill Beneficiary Details: Provide Aadhaar Information and Declaration.
- Capture Photo: Upload a recent photograph.
- Submit Application: Enter details for beneficiary and family members, then complete the eKYC process.
- Card Download: Card can be downloaded soon after successful registration.
For any discrepancy or if no beneficiary is found, make sure to complete the eKYC process and consent to OTP verification.
Key points to note
Separate Ayushman Card:
Senior citizens aged 70 and above will receive a special, separate card under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme.
Exclusive Top-up Coverage:
Senior Citizens in families already covered by AB PM-JAY Rs. 5 lakh additional top-up will be available. This top-up is for them only and need not be shared with family members below 70 years of age.
Family coverage for non-registered seniors:
Senior Citizens who are not part of the existing AB PM-JAY Family Plan will get Rs. 5 lakh annual coverage will be provided.
Flexibility in choice of plan:
Senior citizens currently enrolled in other public health insurance schemes such as Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman CAPF, can choose to continue with their existing scheme or switch to AB PM-. Jay.
Eligibility for those with private insurance:
Senior citizens covered by private health insurance or employees’ state insurance scheme are also eligible for benefits under AB PM-JAY.
