Why did Airtel-Jio tension increase over Starlink? Know how calling will happen without SIM and network

Starlink Satellite Internet service may be launched in India soon. Telecom regulator (TRAI) will soon allocate spectrum for satellite communication in India. For this, the matters will be finalized by 15th December next month. Elon Musk’s satellite internet service has raised tensions with Indian telecom operators Airtel and Jio. Musk’s company applied to launch its satellite internet service in India in October 2022. Apart from Starlink, Jio, Airtel, Amazon and Vi are also in the race to launch their satellite internet services.

Starlink’s satellite internet service is currently live in many countries around the world. In this service users can make calls even without any mobile network and SIM card. Apart from this, users will also get the facility of high speed internet. Elon Musk’s satellite internet service will be different from other companies’ satellite internet services. How does Starlink work?

Most satellite Internet services are provided by a single geospatial satellite, located at an altitude of 35,786 kilometers above the earth’s surface. Due to its altitude, the latency of this satellite is very high, which makes streaming, video gaming and video calling etc. almost impossible, meaning users face a lot of difficulties in accessing the internet.

More than 40 thousand small satellites

At the same time, the Starlink satellites are present at an altitude of only 550 kilometers above the ground. Users’ devices continue to receive connectivity from these satellites located below the Earth’s surface, due to which latency is low and there is no problem in accessing the Internet. Elon Musk’s company has launched nearly 42,000 tablet-sized satellites into low-Earth orbit, helping with internet connectivity and better network coverage. However, apart from Starlink, satellite internet services like Airtel OneWeb, BSNL-Viasat and Amazon Quiper also operate in low Earth orbit.

This way you will get internet connectivity

Starlink uses thousands of small satellites instead of one large satellite. To use Starlink’s satellite service, a user has to install an antenna, which captures the signal coming from the satellite and provides Internet access. According to reports, Starlink’s satellite internet service allows users to access the internet at speeds of up to 150Mbps. Users can access the internet at this speed without any interruption. Also users will be able to make calls even without any mobile network and SIM card.
