A serious incident of abuse and violence against a 20-year-old tribal girl has come to light in Bangomunda Police Station area of Kantabanji in Bolangir district of Odisha. On November 16, a tribal girl of Juraband village was returning home after bathing in the village lake when Abhay Bagh of the village attacked her. The girl alleged that Abhay not only molested her but also abused her and made objectionable comments on her caste.
Attempts to forcefully pick up dirt
The girl stated that the accused hit her on the chest and made her fall down. When her elder mother Champa Mirdha came to her rescue, the accused tried to strangle her and also abused her. After this, the accused took dirt in his hands and applied it on the girl’s face and tried to force-feed her.
Accused absconding, police launched a search
The girl has filed a written complaint at the Bangomunda Police Station regarding this serious matter. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under 288/24. Kantabanji SDPO Gaurang Charan Sahu said that a complaint has been lodged on behalf of the victim. The accused is absconding, but efforts are on to nab him.
The tribal organization demanded justice
After the incident, local tribal organizations are demanding justice. Members of Adijati Kalyan Sangh have demanded strict action against the culprit. They have warned that if the administration does not take immediate action, they will be forced to stage a violent agitation.
Ajit Joshi, a local social activist, condemned the incident and said that the act was despicable. He has demanded the district administration to immediately arrest the accused and take strict action against him. Now it remains to be seen what action the police administration takes against this atrocity against the tribal girl. (Reporting by Shubham Kumar)
