Jagdalpur: After the crushing defeat in the Maharashtra elections, the blame is now on the EVMs and the demand for voting through ballot paper is gaining momentum. In this regard, a senior Congress leader said that Congress will not contest elections if voting is not done through separate ballot papers. This statement was given by senior Congress leader and former minister of Chhattisgarh Kawasi Lakhma. He said on Wednesday that his party will not contest the next election if the ballot system is not reintroduced for voting.
Congress will talk to all alliance partners
Speaking to reporters in Jagdalpur, the state’s Bastar district headquarters, Lakhma said his party would protest with the demand for the use of ballot paper system. Lakhma said, “The Congress party will not contest the next elections unless the elections are conducted through ballot paper.” Congress will talk to all coalition partners (the ‘India’ bloc) and protest.
Congress has made up its mind to do a big movement
He said, “All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Khadgeji gave a statement yesterday. Now there will be meetings (with coalition partners). Currently the session of Lok Sabha is going on. The next strategy will be prepared after the meeting with ‘India’ alliance partners. Congress has made up its mind to do a big movement.
A campaign like ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday criticized the electronic voting system and demanded the return of the ballot paper voting system used earlier for the elections. Khadge said that the votes of the weaker sections are being lost and in such a situation voting should be done through ballot paper and a campaign like ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has to be started for this demand. He also claimed at the ‘Vividhan Rakshak Abhiyan’ event organized by various Congress cells that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is afraid of conducting a caste census as he feels that by doing so, all classes will demand their share.
We need ballot paper
The Congress president said, “SC, ST, OBC and poor people are voting in full force, their votes are being wasted. We want votes through ballot paper.” Ji’s house or Amit Shah’s house, let it be in a warehouse in Ahmedabad. But we need ballot paper.” Kharge said, “The campaign should be started from the party. All parties will be informed. Just like the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ was taken out under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the ‘Ballot Paper Necessary’ campaign also has to be started.
