The Sensex opened 117 points, or 0.2 percent higher, at 80,121 but quickly reversed course, down more than 100 points to a low of 79,879. The NSE Nifty 50 index was down 20 points at 24,170.

Global Indications:

Asian markets were mixed on Wednesday, even as US stocks closed at record highs. President Trump’s threat of higher tariffs on China and neighboring countries weighed on market sentiment.

The Nikkei, Shanghai Composite and Kospi fell as much as 0.7 percent, while the Hang Seng, Taiwan and Straits Times saw marginal gains.

In the US, the Dow Jones rebounded more than 650 points from its intraday lows, with a gain of 124 points, ahead of US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes and third quarter GDP data. The S&P 500 and NASDAQ also rose 0.5%.

Crude oil prices fell slightly following reports of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. Crude futures fell below $68 per barrel, while Brent crude slipped to $72 per barrel. Gold remained steady around $2,650.
